  9. 0)  What's NEW in this release
  10.  
  11.     The v1.07 release contains:
  12.     1) It can be installed from hard disk and floppy drive.    
  13.     2) "WIN31" and "WINAPP" in the section, [CUSTOM], of DISK1 file
  14.        and INSTALL.DAT should be "NO" to bypass Windows 3.1 driver 
  15.        installation.

  18. 1)  SOFTWARE PACKAGE CONTENTS
  19.  
  20.      The 82C930 software package contains (1) 3.5" 1.44M diskette.
  21.      - This is the DOS plus Windows installation diskette
  22.  
  23.      The Install program will copy the following subdirectories and 
  24.      files in your destination directory:
  25.  
  26.      a.)  Installation files
  27.           - INSTALL.COM  - Installation Bring-up program 
  28.                            (in diskette only. won't be copied into HD)
  29.           - SNDINIT.EXE  - INSTALL Main Program
  30.           - INSTALL.DAT  - on-line help text file
  31.           - CDROM.CFG    - CDROM Config File
  32.           - README.TXT   - This file
  33.           - SOUND16.CFG  - Device Configuration File
  34.           - LOGO.BMP     - Company Logo BMP File
  35.  
  36.      b.)  DOS Drivers & Files
  37.           - SNDINIT.EXE  - also used as Audio Device Config/Test 
  38.                            Program
  39.           - VOLUME.BAT   - DOS Volume Setup Program
  40.           - VOLTSR.EXE   - Volume Control DOS Hotkey Program
  41.           - KARAOKE.EXE  - DOS Karaoke Control Program

  48.           Besides, you may get other Audio Applications from your 
  49.           Sound Card Manufacturer. Most likely, they will install 
  50.           their Audio Applications through this INSTALL package 
  51.           as well.

  54. 2)  INSTALLATION PROCESS
  55.  
  56.      The hard disk installation program, INSTALL.COM, will copy 
  57.      the necessary files from OPTi Install diskette(s) into your 
  58.      hard disk. Please follow the installation procedures 
  59.  
  60.      (Assuming you are using floppy drive A, and you wish to install
  61.       to hard disk drive C)
  62.  
  63.      1. Place the disk labeled "OPTi 82C930 Installation" in 
  64.         Drive A (could be drive B).
  65.  
  66.      2. Type a: and press ENTER to change to Drive A.
  67.  
  68.      3. Type install and press ENTER to begin the installation.
  69.  
  70.      OR
  71.  
  72.      1. Copy all the files from installation floppy disk(s) to local
  73.         or make your own installation CD.
  74.  
  75.      2. Change the drive and directory if the current one does not
  76.         match.
  77.  
  78.      3. Type install and press ENTER to begin the installation.

  81.      INSTALL.COM and SNDINIT.EXE will do the followings for you: 
  82.  
  83.      a.) Create the directory \OPTI930 (assuming: default) in your 
  84.          hard disk drive. 
  85.  
  86.      b.) Prompt you for CD-ROM and sound card options so that after
  87.          you have finished the installation and have rebooted your 
  88.          machine, you will be ready to use the sound card.
  89.  
  90.      c.) Copy the files with INSTALL.COM to the OPTI930 directory 
  91.          and Windows directory respectively if you set "WIN31" and
  92.          "WINAPP" in DISK1 file to be "YES". If not, only the 
  93.          DOS-related files will be copied to OPTI930 directory. 
  94.  
  95.      d.) Update your CONFIG.SYS, AUTOEXEC.BAT and SYSTEM.INI files
  96.          In CONFIG.SYS, the following will be added:
  97.  
  98.          - DEVICE=C:\OPTI930\CDSETUP.SYS /T:S /P:340 
  99.            (assuming SONY CD-ROM)
  100.            DEVICE=C:\OPTI930\SLCD.SYS /D:MSCD000 /B:340

  102.          In AUTOEXEC.BAT:

  104.          - PATH=C:\OPTI930 (appended)

  109.          If you want to install Windows 3.1 driver, then In SYSTEM.INI:

  123.            SND930.DRV is the Base driver comprising WAVE, MIDI,
  124.            MIXER and AUXILIARY audio services.

  126.            MPU401P.DRV is the device driver for MPU-401 Wave Table 
  127.            Synthesis interface which requires a MPU-401 compatible 
  128.            device attached to the MIDI Input/Output port or the Wave 
  129.            Table connector on board the sound card.

  131.            V930D.386 is the Virtual Device driver for Windows 
  132.            Enhanced Mode.

  135. 3)  GETTING HELP ABOUT SNDINIT.EXE
  136.  
  137.      You can issue the following command to get information 
  138.      about sndinit.exe:
  139.  
  140.      - SNDINIT /?
  141.

  143. 4)  DOS VOLUME CONTROL TSR PROGRAM
  144.  
  145.      The volume control memory resident program, VOLTSR.EXE, allows
  146.      you to change volume using hot keys while you are in a DOS 
  147.      application. The hot keys are:
  148.  
  149.         Ctrl-Alt-U      Raises the volume
  150.         Ctrl-Alt-D      Lowers the volume
  151.         Ctrl-Alt-M      Mute
  152.  
  153.      For example, pressing the CTRL, ALT, and U keys will raise 
  154.      the volume.
  155.  
  156.      You need to load the TSR before you can use it. To load the TSR,
  157.      type VOLTSR at the DOS prompt.

  160. 5)  KARAOKE SUPPORT
  161.  
  162.      [for the DOS users]
  163.  
  164.      The Karaoke.exe program allows user to control the input volume
  165.      of the microphone on the fly with "HOT KEYS." Before using 
  166.      Karaoke, the VOLTSR.EXE program must be successfully loaded
  167.      and running.
  168.  
  169.      To enable Karaoke Mode, type: "KARAOKE ON" at the DOS prompt.

  171.      To increase MIC input, use: Ctrl-Alt-PageUp
  172.      To decrease MIC input, use: Ctrl-Alt-PageDown
  173.  
  174.      To disable Karaoke Mode, type: "KARAOKE OFF" at the DOS prompt.

  177. 6)  CD-ROM Interface Setup Device Driver
  178.  
  179.      The CD-ROM Setup Device Driver is called CDSETUP.SYS. This 
  180.      driver sets up the interface of your CD-ROM to the MAD16 sound
  181.      card. Each time you change or add a CD-ROM to your sound card. 
  182.      The line "DEVICE=CDSETUP.SYS..." will be added to the first line 
  183.      of your CONFIG.SYS file before the CD-ROM device driver line. 
  184.      CDSETUP.SYS is defined as follows:
  185.  
  186.      DEVICE=[drive:]\[directory]\CDSETUP.SYS /T:[M/S/P/I/X] /P:[addr] 
  187.             /I:[IRQ] /D:[DMA]  
  188.  
  189.      [drive] = drive where you have the driver installed
  190.      [directory] = directory where the driver is located
  191.      [M/S/P/I/X] = M stands for Mitsumi
  192.                    S stands for SONY
  193.                    P stands for PANASONIC
  194.                    I stands for IDE drive
  195.                    X stands for disabled
  196.  
  197.      [address] = Port address for CD-ROM (320, 330, 340, 360)
  198.  
  199.      [IRQ] = Interrupt number (5,7,9,10,11)
  200.  
  201.      [DMA] = DMA channel (0, 1, 3)

  203.      For example, the following line sets up the interface for a 
  204.      Mitsumi CD-ROM:

  206.      DEVICE=C:\OPTI930\CDSETUP.SYS /T:M /P:340 /I:10
  207.  
  208.      If you did not specify the /I or /D options, CDSETUP will 
  209.      automatically choose the default setting for the CD-ROM type 
  210.      your have specified.

  212.      - For Mitsumi, the IRQ is 10 and DMA is disabled.
  213.      - For SONY, they are both disabled.
  214.      - FOR PANASONIC, they are both disabled.
  215.  
  216.      For IDE drive, you need to just specify the /T:I option. 
  217.      Specifying any other option in addition to this will be ignored.
  218.      The I/O Port and Interrupt for IDE is located at 170H and Int 15.

  221. 7)  Run DOS games in Window 95  
  222.  
  223.      In this release, our implemenatation has been changed to provide 
  224.      Demand-Driven DOS Box Game Support. There is only one DOS box
  225.      that can own the audio device at one time.
  226.  
  227.      !! Notes !!
  228.      a) Sometimes, the Setup of the PIF file of a DOS game is crucial.
  229.         To make a game work effectively under Windows, you probably 
  230.         have to try a few alternative options through PIF editor.
  231.      b) Not all the DOS games can run in Windows' DOS BOX. Some of 
  232.         them just don't run because of system restrictions. DOOM is
  233.         one of those games failed in DOS BOX. Windows 95 provides
  234.         much better DOS BOX support and DOOM is OK with Windows 95
  235.         DOS BOX.
